Simon Cooper-Williams is Managing Director of International Portfolio Analytics at Markel International, where he leads three specialist teams dedicated to modern pricing model development, active portfolio management, and delivering actionable data and insights to underwriting. Simon is instrumental in fostering a data-driven portfolio management culture across Markel’s businesses, ensuring underwriters are equipped with the tools and intelligence needed to drive performance and innovation.
Simon joined Markel in 2014 as Divisional Actuary, following his early career as an Actuarial Consultant at KPMG. In 2019, he transitioned into underwriting, establishing the in-house analytics and portfolio management function now known as International Portfolio Analytics. Under his leadership, IPA has become a core service to the business, championing the integration of analytics and modern portfolio techniques into everyday underwriting practice.
With a first-class BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Sheffield and as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, Simon brings deep technical expertise and a passion for continuous improvement to his role.
