Toby Clegg was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Clegg Gifford (CG) in October 2016, having first joined the firm in 2007 following service in the Royal Navy. His early career at CG saw him gain experience across a range of branches and classes of business on both a direct and wholesale basis.
Toby subsequently broadened his industry expertise at Tradex Insurance, where he undertook a series of senior roles, including responsibility for claims oversight, reinsurance negotiations and underwriting strategy.
On his return to CG, Toby was promoted to CEO. Under his leadership the firm has pursued a strategy of sustainable growth, expanding across the UK and the Channel Islands, strengthening underwriting and reinsurance partnerships, and investing significantly in people and culture.
Toby plays an active role in the wider insurance industry. He is a member of the BIBA Large Brokers’ Advisory Board and sits on the Insurance Times Advisory Board. In 2024, he was named “Broker Personality of the Year” at the UK Broker Awards.
He holds an MSc in Insurance and Risk Management from Bayes (Cass) Business School, is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII) and a Chartered Insurer, and is currently completing an MSc in Strategic Marketing at Imperial College Business School. Alongside his professional career, Toby serves as an officer in the Royal Navy Reserve, based at HMS PRESIDENT.
